Every
45 seconds, someone will suffer a stroke. Every 3.1 minutes, someone
will die of one. Stroke is our nation's #3 killer and the leading
cause of severe, long-term disability.
This means you, or someone close to you has, or will, be affected
by stroke during your lifetime. Stroke does not discriminate. You
can be in the best of health and still suffer a stroke with little
or no warning. Learn
how to recognize the warning signs.
The good news is the American Stroke Association funds research
that is helping shed light on how to prevent and treat stroke. They
are also the leading provider of credible stroke information to
individuals and healthcare providers. They're doing great work,
but need our help.
I am training to walk/run a marathon
on June 22 in Kona, Hawaii that helps raise funds and
awareness to contribute to the American
Stroke Association's mission. For those of you who
know me, this sounds silly -- Susan do a marathon? Well, I'm committed
to trying, but even more committed to raising the funds. I've already
walked hundreds of miles to train.
Five years ago, my mother had a stroke while on vacation. As is
normally the case, there were no warning signs before the night
of the stroke. People were surprised because they thought she was
too young to have a stroke. I have since met people who are in
their 20's who have suffered multiple strokes, and I have heard
of infants who have had strokes.
...
I need to raise at least $5,000. $1250 goes to my travel expenses,
which I will be paying for on my own by doing additional freelance work. Rest
assured -- 100% of your donation will go directly to the American
Stroke Association.
Individual Donations:
You're helping to support a great cause -- one that may one day
help save your life or that of a loved one. Please visit
my online donation site and pledge any amount you can.
Every bit helps! If you do not wish to donate online, please
contact me and I will send you information on how to
make a donation by check.

Visit
the Web site that I created to raise funds for the American
Stroke Association. It will be distributed to all of the participants
who will be heading to Kona in late June.
